A Legacy of Excellence: From Modest Beginnings to Industry Pioneers

Since its inception in 1945 on Colerain Avenue in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sunshine Cleaners has embarked on a journey that humbly began through the collaboration of Joseph Henry Schwegmann Sr. and Bill Kreeb. Starting as a modest dry-cleaning venture, the company's guiding principles of quality and customer satisfaction have remained steadfast throughout its history.

A significant chapter unfolded in 1947 when Joseph Henry Schwegmann Jr. became part of the team, fresh from completing his high school education. With resolute determination, he contributed his unwavering commitment during school breaks, slowly immersing himself in the intricacies of the business.

In 1956, the company faced a poignant moment with the passing of Joseph Henry Schwegmann Sr. This event marked a pivotal juncture for Joseph Henry Schwegmann Jr., who took on the responsibility by acquiring his parents' share of the company. This transition gave rise to a meaningful partnership between Joseph Henry Schwegmann Jr. and Bill Kreeb, setting the stage for a journey characterized by innovation and growth.

As time passed, Sunshine Cleaners encountered a transformative period shaped by the introduction of polyester fabrics, which led to changes in the traditional dry-cleaning landscape. In response, the company expanded its offerings, venturing into suede and leather cleaning in 1970. The advent of polyester, with its simplified care requirements, prompted a shift away from traditional dry cleaning, compelling Sunshine Cleaners to embrace adaptation.

Subsequent years welcomed the involvement of Joseph Henry Schwegmann Jr.'s sons—Greg Thomas Schwegmann, Joseph Edward Schwegmann, and Jeffrey Raymond Schwegmann—into the family enterprise. This intergenerational commitment solidified the family's dedication to upholding the company's values. The transition was formalized with Joseph Henry Schwegmann Jr.'s retirement in 1987, as he entrusted the business to the third generation.

Guided by the forward-thinking leadership of Greg Thomas Schwegmann, Joseph Edward Schwegmann, and Jeffrey Raymond Schwegmann, Sunshine Suede Company expanded its influence within the suede and leather cleaning sector. Their innovative approach culminated in the establishment of the Prestige Preservation Program (PPP) in 1998—an inspired collaboration with specialized cleaners across the nation. This pioneering initiative, known as PPP, focuses on the preservation of treasured items like wedding gowns, offering an unmatched international lifetime guarantee.

A milestone of significance arrived in 2003 with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art facility in Silver Grove, Kentucky. This cutting-edge establishment embraced technologies like GreenEarth© Cleaning and introduced the revolutionary Leather Solutions© system, setting new standards in leather and suede cleaning. These advances underscored the company's growth while honoring a steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility.

In 2001, Jeff Schwegmann Jr. embarked on his journey at Sunshine Cleaners as a leather press operator. His ascent through the ranks symbolized dedication, eventually leading him to play a vital role within the family-owned business. Armed with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Business Administration from Northern Kentucky University College of Business, Jeff's pursuit of excellence culminated in his attainment of certifications from the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute (DLI), notably the distinction of Certified Garment Care Professional.

Jeff's influence extended beyond Sunshine Cleaners. As a Charter Member and Executive Director of the Professional Leather Cleaners Association, he championed technical and business development. Furthermore, his dedication was acknowledged through his election as President of the Midwest Drycleaning and Laundry Association in 2015. His contributions extended to his position on the board of directors for the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Institute. In 2023, he successfully concluded his term as President of the Drycleaning and Laundry Association, a testament to his unwavering commitment to the industry's education and advancement.

Guided by Jeff's leadership, Sunshine Cleaners introduced brands like LeatherCareUSA.com and Happily Ever After Preservation, offering specialized mail-order services. The acquisition of Prestige Preservation in 2019 further solidified the company's dedication to excellence. The launch of US Leather Cleaning in 2022 underscored the company's commitment to setting industry benchmarks within the leather cleaning sector.

Today, Jeff Schwegmann Jr. stands as the General Manager and President of Sunshine Cleaners. Supported by his wife Lauren and their three sons, he remains resolute in propelling the company forward. Amid his professional pursuits, Jeff cherishes moments spent with his family, engaging in soccer coaching, embracing the challenge of playing poor golf, and having a good time.

From its modest origins to its role as an industry catalyst, Sunshine Cleaners' narrative reflects a legacy defined by humility, adaptability, and an unwavering dedication to surpassing customer expectations.
